A separatist group claimed responsibility on Monday for a spate of weekend bombings on the French-ruled Mediterranean island of Corsica and in the city of Nice on France’s southern Riviera coast. A caller to I-Television in Ajaccio in southwestern Corsica claimed responsibility in the name of a group called the FLNC for the bombing of an office at an airport on the isle and an earlier blast at government offices in Nice that injured 16. Police confirmed that an unoccupied holiday villa had also been seriously damaged by an incendiary device in a separate attack overnight in northeast Corsica. “The perpetrators will be tracked down…and they will be punished,” Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy told RTL radio.
