Argentine Leader Rips Probe of '94 Blast

President Nestor Kirchner on Friday called the unresolved investigation of a 1994 Jewish community center bombing a “national disgrace” and vowed to bring justice in the deadliest terror attack in Argentine history. Kirchner joined leaders of Argentina’s Jewish community in observing a moment of silence to mark the ninth anniversary of the attack that killed eight-five people and injured more than 200. It was one of two bombings targeting the Jewish community in Buenos Aires in the 1990s. A siren wailed at 9:53 a.m., the exact moment of the blast that leveled the seven-story building. Then the names of the victims were read aloud as thousands of people crowded the site, urging the new government to move quickly to resolve the case. “We have suffered nine years of frustration and injustice,” said Abraham Kaul, president of the Jewish Community Cultural Center.
