Liberian rebels captured the key Po River bridge in heavy fighting Friday, breaking down one of the last main lines of defense before the capital Monrovia, a top government commander said. The bridge is just eight miles from the outskirts of the frightened city, where hundreds of people were killed last month in two failed assaults by the rebel Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD), who are seeking to unseat President Charles Taylor. “The rebels are there.
