Army troops repelled an ambush by some 50 New People’s Army (NPA) guerillas Friday morning along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Digdig in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija and captured instead their ambushers. Col. Jovenal Narcise, commander of the Army’s 702nd Infantry Brigade, reported that soldiers from the 71st IB and the K Force of the 7th Infantry Division were transporting generators, spare parts and office equipment in an M-35 truck from Manila to Gamu, Isabela when it they were fired upon by the rebels. “It happened that a group of Army soldiers headed by 2nd Lt. Armand Gutierrez was nearby and immediately came to the rescue,” Narcise said.
