BRITISH holidaymakers have been warned to keep on the look out for South American gangs targeting them as they fly home from the Costa del Sol. Spanish police have increased the number of officers patrolling Malaga airport after a sharp rise in the number of robberies on tourists. Peruvian and Chilean gangs are said to be behind the crimes. One ruse is for a gang member to approach a tourist to ask a question while his accomplice steals their luggage. On other occasions, one spills a drink over his victim while another takes advantage of the distraction to run off with their bags. The well-dressed robbers are targeting tourists in the airport departure lounge. In the past six months, more than 150 tourists are thought to have fallen victim to the sting. Police say the gangs also puncture the tyres on hire cars in the airport car park. Full Story
