The Yala governor has ordered an investigation into reports of a group of separatists running a protection racket in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. Kitti Kittichokwattana urged businessmen who received threatening letters or were contacted by the group, to inform him or their nearest authorities. He also vowed to investigate an e-mail reportedly sent by Haji Lukman Lima, of the Pattani United Liberation Organisation, to religious teachers in the three southern provinces, asking them to “continue performing their duties”.
