Police in Ireland and the Netherlands were questioning six men on Wednesday after seizing millions of euro worth of cigarettes as part of a probe into the funding of dissident Irish republican group the Real IRA. The cigarettes were found in warehouses in Holland and in County Monaghan, close to the Irish border with British-ruled Northern Ireland. “As part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation into both the financial and operational activities of the Real IRA… Gardai (Irish police) in co-operation with Dutch police and Irish customs discovered a warehouse in Holland containing a large consignment of cigarettes,” said a police spokesman. “As part of the same operation…a large consignment of cigarettes was discovered in a warehouse in the Inniskeen area of County Monaghan.” Two Irishmen in their 30s were arrested in the Netherlands, and four men in their 30s and 40s were held in Ireland.
