French security officials say Australia ignored their warnings that a man with links to al-Qaeda was living in Sydney before the 2000 Olympics. France’s leading counterterrorism magistrate, Jean-Louis Bruguière, said he sent investigators to Australia to question the man, who had suspected links to an al-Qaeda cell in Canada. Bruguière said the unidentified suspect had been in contact with active al-Qaeda operatives, including Ahmed Ressam, who was arrested in 1999 in a plot to bomb the Los Angeles airport. Bruguière criticized authorities in Canberra for not treating the threat seriously. Full Story
