The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has joined the hunt Monday for escaped Fathur Rohman Al-Ghozi, the most senior Jemaah Islamiyah militant jailed in the Philippines. Al-Ghozi’s escape comes as the major setback to the global war on terrorism, embarrassing President Gloria Arroyo at the start of an official visit by Australian Prime Minister John Howard. Howard, like Arroyo, is a key US ally in the war on terrorism. A massive military manhunt has been launched, said armed forces spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Danilo Lucero. “The military has already alerted the troops and intelligence units to intensify the manhunt against Fathur and two of his companions,” Lucero said. “So far there is no indication yet as to where the suspect had escaped.” Full Story
