Death Toll Rises to 6 in Koronadal City Blast

Six people were killed in a bomb blast that ripped through the public market of the southern Philippines city of Koronadal on Thursday, the military said. Updating an earlier report, as many as 20 people were also wounded by the bomb that went off inside a crowded area of the used clothing section of the market, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Lucero said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, which occurred in a region where Muslim separatist guerrillas operate. Local officials said the number of wounded could be even higher as many of the injured were rushed to hospitals before any head count could be made.
