The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) accused the military Friday of “concocting” the reported landing of the Abu Sayyaf in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat over the weekend to justify a possible liberation of MILF guerilla enclaves in the area. MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu aired this accusation, saying, “It would be impossible for us not to know if there was indeed a landing of Abu Sayyaf forces in Palimbang because we have forces scattered in our territories there (and) they can easily be seen by our fighters but so far, they have not seen any.” Kabalu described as “virtually conflicting and confusing” the military’s version of the reported landing of the bandit chief Khadafy Janjalani and 80 of his followers in a Sultan Kudarat coastal village over the weekend. Palimbang’s municipal peace and order council, in a report to the Army’s 601st Brigade, said Janjalani and his men docked from three big pumpboats at Palimbang and immediately marched towards known rebel territory nearby.
