A deputy governor of Chita in eastern Siberia was shot twice in the chest with a hunting weapon in an apparent contract killing, regional officials said Thursday. Alexander Shapnevsky, 54, a wealthy businessman and one of nine Chita deputy governors, was on vacation with his family at their dacha on the outskirts of the city of Chita, officials said. Shapnevsky was shot at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the dacha, local police said. Investigators found a spent shotgun cartridge near the body.
