Court Seeks US-held Suspect for JI Case
A Jakarta court yesterday ordered prosecutors to produce a suspected al-Qaeda member in US custody as a witness in the case of Abu Bakar Bashir, the alleged head of Jemaah Islamiah, the terror group linked with last year’s Bali bombings. Omar al-Faruq was arrested in Indonesia last year and handed over to US authorities. He told US investigators he had been sent by al-Qaeda to Indonesia to foster its relationship with JI and Mr Bashir, a 64-year-old cleric who Mr al-Faruq and others claim heads the JI. Mr Bashir, who has been charged with treason for allegedly heading JI, has denied all charges. Full Story
