France’s most wanted fugitive, Yvan Colonna, was placed under judicial investigation by a Paris judge after his arrest in Corsica over the 1998 assassination of the Mediterranean island’s governor, police said. Colonna, the chief suspect in the slaying of Claude Erignac, had earlier been taken to the main Paris court house in a motorcade of three armoured vans and a dozen motorbikes with a red helicopter flying overhead. Colonna, who had been on the run since May 1999, was placed under judicial investigation, the first step toward being officially charged, for “assassination in relation with a terrorist enterprise”.
