Israeli troops arrested a military leader of the radical Palestinian group Islamic Jihad during a sweep of the northern West Bank, prompting threats of an early end to a truce. Hassan Khamaisseh, a leader of the armed wing of Islamic Jihad in the city of Jenin, was captured by Israeli troops early Monday, the group said. A senior leader for the group, Sheikh Bassam Saadi, told AFP that “if the raids continue, Jihad will stop respecting the truce.” Islamic Jihad is one of five Palestinian groups which have agreed to a freeze of at least three months in attacks on Israeli targets. But they have attached a series of conditions to the truce, including an end to all arrests of Palestinians by Israeli authorities. Full Story
