The UK is a potential hotspot for digital attacks mounted by politically-motivated hackers this summer. Security experts mi2g is predicting that the UK will be a target for militants in July and August and that the country also harbours hackers who will increase their activities during this period. DK Matai, executive chairman at mi2g, said: “Since mid 2002, politically-motivated hacking has been on an upward curve. Civil disobedience as far as the UK is concerned is also being co-ordinated via the world wide web.” Islamic hacking that originates from countries such as Egypt, Morocco and Pakistan and targets western democratic agencies and big companies on the web are becoming more prolific – with the UK a prime target.
