The visitor’s center at the United Nations was closed Thursday as police and firefighters investigated a suspicious package. The package, described as a small bag containing a canister, was tested for radiation and for a bomb. U.N. spokesman Farhan Haq said it was found to be harmless, and the center reopened after several hours. Last October, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Korean descent was arrested on the U.N. grounds after he shot at the building as part of a protest against the North Korean government.
