Fourteen Killed as Rebels Storm Kashmir Army Camp

Two suspected Muslim separatists stormed an army camp in Indian Kashmir on Saturday, killing 12 soldiers before being shot dead, a defense official said. In one of the worst attacks since India and Pakistan began easing tensions over the region in April, the pair lobbed grenades and fired automatic weapons after cutting their way through barbed wire into the camp as most of the soldiers slept. The pre-dawn assault, in which seven soldiers were also injured, came as President Abdul Kalam was on an official visit to troubled Jammu and Kashmir state, the first by a president in several years.
