A U.S. military spokeswoman Friday said three Iraqi nationals have been detained in connection with the disappearance of two American soldiers north of Baghdad. The soldiers — the subject of an intense search — were reported missing late Wednesday from their post about 40 kilometers north of Baghdad. They were last reported traveling in a Humvee near a checkpoint when military officials lost contact with them. Asked if they may have been abducted, a senior Pentagon official said there is no evidence of that but there is “concern” about their fate. The search for those missing troops went on amid a rash of confrontations between Iraqis and U.S. personnel — what one U.S. military official has called a “classic phase of insurgency.” Full Story
