The Judicial Council sentenced two people to three years of imprisonment with hard labor for planning to kidnap tourists from the Tripoli fortress and for weapons possession. Nasser Abdel-Karim Ahmed and Haitham Mohammed Saleh had confessed in preliminary investigations to planning, under the directives of Ahmed Mikati, to kidnap tourists from the Tripoli fortress in order to pressure the government into releasing the Dinnieh detainees. According to Ahmed and Saleh, the gang planned to bring weapons from the home of Zeinel-Abidin Khalil at the Beddawi refugee camp and to recruit members for the execution of the plan. Full Story
