A ship laden with explosives that was seized by Greece on its way to Sudan at the weekend was illegally registered, Greek officials said, as the vessel’s seven-man crew was remanded in custody. The crew members of the Comoros-flagged Baltic Sky — which was caught on its way to Sudan with a massive consignment of Tunisian-made explosives — now face felony charges for possessing and transporting explosives to third parties for outlawed activities. “The ship is not legally registered,” said Greek Merchant Marine Minister George Anomeritis in a statement. “The Comoros Maritime Administration has notified the ship-owning company… that the ship is not covered by the register of the Union of Comoros,” he added.
