Afghan leader Hamid Karzai said Thursday al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden may be alive and living as a fugitive around the frontier between Afghanistan and Pakistan. “We believe that if Osama is alive, and if he is around this region of ours, he should probably be there on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” Karzai told reporters during a visit to the Polish capital Warsaw. He was asked whether he agreed with the statement this week of Pakistan’s president Pervez Musharraf that bin Laden — accused by Washington of masterminding the September 11, 2001, suicide attacks — could be moving around the lawless border.
