Service Shots fired at Israeli vehicle close to West Bank settlement of Ofra; two passengers hit by gunfire, two hurt after car overturns. One person was killed, two seriously injured and one lightly injured, in a shooting attack near the West Bank settlement of Ofra, some 7 kilometers northeast of Ramallah. Magen David Adom said that two of the people were hit by bullets, while the other two were apparently hurt when the car overturned. It was not immediatley clear whether the dead person was hit by the fire, or killed in the ensuing accident. The attack occured on Friday at about 1:40 P.M. – just minutes after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell ended their joint press conference in the capital. It is believed that the vehicle came under fire close to Ofra, but that the driver continuted several kilometers in the direction of Sha’ar Binyamin. Before reaching Sha’ar Binyamin, however, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, which overturned several times.
