Twin mock terrorism disasters in the Orlando area next week will test the region’s homeland-security readiness. City and law-enforcement officials said Tuesday they are planning a simulated chemical disaster in downtown Orlando and a mock hostage crisis in the tourism corridor next Wednesday morning. The downtown exercise will involve 400 “victims” in the area of Church Street and Garland Avenue, which will be closed to traffic from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a city official said. The simulated hostage crisis will begin at 9:30 a.m. in an undisclosed resort area. That event will be off-limits to the public and press, said Orange County sheriff’s Capt.
