Security patrols along the peaceline in west Belfast are to be stepped up following a meeting between the police and community representatives. The meeting was called by the Democratic Unionist Party, whose representatives say that attacks in the area are on the increase. However, loyalist and nationalist community workers say that, overall, community relations have improved in recent months. Community representatives on both sides are involved in work aimed at preventing tensions from rising, ahead of the Orange Order’s parade in Whiterock later this month. Tina Patrick is from the Interface group, a loyalist residents’ association which represents Protestants in the peaceline area. “There has been an increase in minor attacks along the interface,” she said.
