Who watches the watchers? The American software security company Foundstone has been accused of software piracy, on a large scale and over a number of years. It appears that software for which they had a single licence was put on the company’s server for all to use. It even hacked the Windows XP registration process, allegedly. All this of course while the firm was giving expensive classes of software security. What makes the crime is made so juicily ironic is that the founders of the firm, one Stuart McClure and George Kurtz, wrote a popular book called Hacking Exposed and Foundstone has made its name in exposing the weaknesses in other people’s software. Personnel at the White House, in the US Army and the FBI have taken its Ultimate Hacking course. In these courses software was distributed to classes on laptops, allegedly without a licence.
