Seven killed in Saudi clashes

Five militants suspected of preparing an attack have been killed in clashes with police in the Saudi holy city of Mecca. At least two members of the security forces also died during a battle in the city’s Khaldia district, the interior ministry said in a statement. Police had arrested another seven suspects in a raid carried out on the suspects’ apartment, which was “bobby-trapped and ready to explode”, it said. The Saudi authorities have been tightening security since suicide bombings in Riyadh last month which killed 34 people. It is not clear whether the suspects were linked to last month’s bombings. The ministry’s account differs from an earlier report by Okaz newspaper which said 10 people, including five members of the security forces, had been killed. Full Story
