Indian police said they had detained a senior Kashmiri separatist leader on Thursday after he launched campaign to determine whether Kashmiris want to participate in talks over the future of their disputed region. Mohammad Yasin Malik, chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), was detained as a “precautionary measure” in Anantnag district to the south of Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer said. “He was detained with two other senior leaders of the JKLF because they posed a threat to law and order in the area,” he said.
