A prominent separatist leader in Indian Kashmir was released on bail two days after he was arrested for launching a campaign for Kashmiris to be included in the talks on the future of the disputed region, officials said. Yasin Malik, head of the pro-independence group Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and two colleagues — Javed Mir and Noor Mohammed Kalwal — were released from the central jail in the summer capital Srinagar. They were arrested Thursday near Kokernag village, 70 kilometres (44 miles) south of Srinagar and remanded to five days judicial custody by a magistrate in the nearby Anantnag town. “The same court provided them bail today (Saturday) and we have released them,” a police officer told AFP.
