The head of Sydney Airport today admitted it was impossible to guarantee airport security, after a series of disturbing incidents across Australia. This week it emerged a former Qantas baggage handler was named by the US Central Intelligence Agency as an al-Qaeda operative in Australia with plans to launch bomb attacks. Today it was reported that a former Sydney Airport shuttle bus driver raised funds for the violent Indonesian group Laskar Jihad, suspected of links with terrorism groups Jemaah Islamiah and al-Qaeda. Also today, a man faced Cairns Magistrates Court after allegedly smuggling a box cutter knife aboard a Virgin Blue flight from Sydney to Cairns yesterday. And late last month a man was arrested after allegedly trying to hijack a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Launceston, armed with sharpened wooden steaks. Full Story
