After extensive review and revisions, the highest information technology (IT) policy body in the country has submitted its final version of its proposed cybercrime bill to Congress. Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (ITECC) executive director and Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) undersecretary Virgilio L. Peña formally endorsed the bill to Congress science and technology committee chair Rodolfo Bacani late last month. ITECC security subcommittee co-chair Albert P. de la Cruz explained in a phone interview on that the bill aims to cover areas concerning online data and transaction security that are not adequately covered by the E-Commerce Act of 2000. It has been observed that while the law sets concepts of protection in broad strokes, specific measures are still needed to deal with and prosecute cybercrime in the country. Full Story
