For the first time, the Saudi interior minister accused Al Qaeda in last month’s bombings in Riyadh in an interview published today, and his ministry identified 12 of the attackers. The minister, Prince Nayef, said 25 people were in custody in connection with the bombings on May 12 at three Western housing compounds in Riyadh. Thirty-five people were killed, including at least nine suicide bombers.The prince told the Arabic-language daily Okaz that “we can’t say that all are involved in the bombings, but they all have the same orientation” and the same beliefs as those involved in the bombings. “I think it is Al Qaeda, and there might be other organizations who helped or worked closely in the attacks,” he said.
