Police in Zimbabwe have again arrested the main opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, on the last day of anti-government protests, his spokesman has said. William Bango, of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), said two policemen “said [Mr Tsvangirai] was under arrest and they were taking him to the central police station”. The arrest at Mr Tsvangirai’s home in the capital, Harare, came as the army, police and ruling party militants were deployed throughout the city to thwart further mass protests against President Robert Mugabe. The past week has seen Zimbabwe’s economy largely brought to a standstill, but the government has succeeded in thwarting and violently suppressing any street protests. Full Story
