A peace deal between Sudan’s government and southern rebels will be ready for signing in August, a Kenyan envoy said on Thursday, although officials have said the latest round of talks failed to make much progress. “An agreement will be ready for signing by both parties next August,” Lazarus Sumbeiywo, the Kenyan president’s special peace envoy in Sudan told a group of southern Sudanese opposition politicians. He said international pressure and the situation inside Sudan, especially as fighting had erupted in the west of the country with another rebel group, would encourage the government to sign.
