The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday ordered the dismissal of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ab Rashid Khan alias Rashid Billa for his involvement in a triple murder case and human rights violation. Khan was absconding for the last two years after he was summoned by the court of chief judicial magistrate, Srinagar, under charges of murder of three persons here. The victims, according to the FIR, were killed in custody and their bodies were recovered from different places after a week’s time. Khan, in order to evade arrest on the murder charges went underground since November 27, 1999 and was reportedly hiding in the farm house of one senior police officer in Chandigarh. The Director General of Police, Gopal Sharma, dismissed Abdul Rashid Khan, the then SDPO Hazratbal, on account of his absconding and continued unauthorised absence from duty with effect from November 27, 1999, an official spokesman said on Friday. Earlier, in order to pressurise Khan to present himself before the court, police authorities had cancelled the allotment of Khan’s official accommodation. Full Story
