Indonesian troops have shot dead a German man and seriously injured his wife in Aceh province, where the government is battling a separatist insurgency, the Indonesia military say. The couple, who were said to have tourist visas, were reportedly caught in a battle between government troops and separatist rebels, an army commander told local radio. However, one report states that the pair were shot by troops investigating suspicious activity near a house in a village on the western coast of the province. Indonesian army operations commander Bambang Darmono told local radio that the dead man had been identified as 54-year-old Luther Hendrick Albert. His wife was wounded and taken to a local hospital in Aceh, an army spokesman told the French news agency AFP. A military investigation is to be launched into the incident, Mr Darmono added.
