The failure of the Shin Bet to detect the two British Mike’s Place bombers as they crossed various security checkpoints has prompted an internal investigation into the security checks carried out at all the international border crossings into Israel, said a senior security source. Officials are also checking how Asif Mahmoud Hanif, 22, and Omar Khan Sharif, 27, who carried out the April 30 pub bombing in Tel Aviv, evaded detection when entering Israel via the international Allenby Bridge crossing on April 12, and crossed the Gaza Strip-Israel border via the Erez crossing without raising suspicion. “Security officials at the Allenby Bridge were suspicious of the two and they were thoroughly checked and released, as nothing was found on them,” the source said.
