Latin American nations vowed Saturday to join efforts against terrorism and drug trafficking but demanded fairer trade practices from wealthy nations. The 19 leaders ended the 17th summit of the Group of Rio nations Saturday by promising to curb corruption and poverty, which they said undermine democratic rule in the region as does terrorism. “As long as we are unable to energetically fight terrorism and drug trafficking they will continue to undermine our democratic system,” said Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo, host of the two-day summit.
