Yale University bolstered security for this weekend’s graduation exercises after an explosion rocked a law school classroom earlier in the week, the school’s Web site said. “In light of the recent incident at the Law School, we are taking some special security measures to augment the expanded efforts we always mount for Commencement,” Linda Koch Lorimer, Yale vice president and secretary, wrote in a memo to graduating students and guests. “Backpacks, camera bags or any other large bag will not be permitted” at the ceremonies, which run from Saturday through Monday on the university’s campus in New Haven, Connecticut. Lorimer said. “Also, there will be screening for entry to the Old Campus on Monday morning,” she said. The Old Campus area is the historic heart of the school, which is marking its 302nd commencement this year. Graduating students, wearing academic regalia, receive their diplomas there on Monday.
