Plans to order a cessation of hostilities in Mindanao next week were derailed after Malacañang received intelligence reports that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front-Special Operations Group (MILF-SOG) has unleashed more of its bombers to wreak havoc in the war-torn South. In a press briefing on Friday, presidential chief of staff Rigoberto Tiglao noted the irony of the report, which comes at a time when the military is scaling down its pursuit of suspected MILF bombers. “What we would like to report is that small-scale pursuit operations have been happening, but apparently we have received intelligence reports that the MILF-SOG has distributed improvised bombs to its ordinary foot soldiers for detonation in certain areas in Mindanao like public markets and schools,” Tiglao said.
