American officials said today that the United States Embassy here and two consulates in Saudi Arabia would be closed on Wednesday because of an “imminent” threat of more terrorist attacks inside the kingdom. Officials in Britain and Germany also said they would close their embassies temporarily. The decision to close the American Embassy in Riyadh and the consulates in Jidda and Dhahran came in response to new intelligence reports warning of a sharp increase in communications among suspected terrorists describing plans for a series of attacks here, American officials said today. “The embassy continues to receive credible information that further terrorist attacks are being planned against unspecified targets in Saudi Arabia,” the embassy warned Americans in a statement posted today on its Web site.
