Police said on Thursday they have arrested a member of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terror network who is suspected of involvement in a church bombing and of hiding a Bali bomb suspect. “Police arrested Zoefri Yoes alias Datuak, 52, at Kalimalang in East Jakarta on May 9,” national police spokesman Zainuri Lubis told AFP. Zoefri is being detained for questioning in the Riau provincial capital of Pekanbaru on Sumatra island, Zainuri said. He said that Zoefri knew about a plan to bomb a church in Pekanbaru on Christmas Eve 2000 and helped store the explosives. The spokesman quoted Zoefri as saying he assisted in the bombing to avenge the death of Muslims in fighting with Christians in the Maluku islands. Zoefri is the father in law of Idris, alias Joni Hendrawan, a key suspect in the October 12 Bali bombings which killed 202 people. Full Story
