Moroccan security forces raided this city’s slums and shantytowns today and arrested scores of suspected Islamic militants in connection with Friday’s suicide bombings, as government leaders promised that the continuing crackdown would not lead to a general rollback of democratic reforms. Authorities said today they were convinced that foreign organizers were behind the attacks, which killed 42 people and shattered this country’s self-image as a model of political stability and tolerance. But the 14 suicide bombers, including one who survived, were all young Moroccans, mostly slum dwellers from the Sidi Moumen area of the city, and some have been linked to a tiny local underground militant group — Assirat al-Moustaquim, or the Righteous Path.
