Police Detain Foreigners over Terrorism

Hundreds of foreigners, most of them Asians, Arabs and Somalis, were yesterday rounded up in a city swoop to counter terrorist threats. A combined force comprising of Police, Military Police, Military Intelligence, LDUs and immigration officers, raided various offices, factories and residences in the city and its suburbs. Some unsuspecting foreigners bumped into the forces’ hands on the roads as they headed to work. Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said the operation targeted illegal immigrants who entered the country in dubious ways and avoided the immigration offices. He said they are a security risk to the country. “In the wake of terrorism threats, it was deemed necessary that we carry out this operation to establish who they are, where they stay and what they do,” he said. Other security sources, however, said they were also cracking down on narcotic drug peddlers in the city. “They are using drugs to facilitate their activities,” the source said. Full Story
