Zacarias Moussaoui has been allowed to conduct a pre-trial deposition of at least one potential trial witness in his case, a Malaysian terrorism suspect who the authorities say met with Mr. Moussaoui in Southeast Asia before the Sept. 11 terror attacks, according to court papers made public today. The court papers show that Mr. Moussaoui, acting as his own lawyer, questioned the witness, Faiz Bafana, in a videoconference last year, with federal prosecutors cross-examining Mr. Bafana. Mr. Bafana was arrested in Singapore last year and has been held on charges that he was tied to Al Qaeda.
