New federal privacy guidelines are making it tougher for medical researchers to access large amounts of patient data — and some researchers fear that could jeopardize studies of drug safety, medical devices and how to better predict and prevent disease. “I think some projects are going to be much harder to do,” said Dr. David Korn, a senior vice president at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington.
