The federal government, while taking notice of the recent hacking of the Punjab government website, has prepared a comprehensive plan to check such incidents in future. According to sources, it has been decided to host ‘mirror websites’ at a server, proposed to be installed in the country. National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has been asked to install the server for all the official websites. “Following the mirroring of the sites, the facility of ‘redirection’ will enable the surfers to access the site round the clock,” sources said. Sources claimed that the mirroring of the websites would help in providing incessant access to the netizens, especially during maintenance of the host server or any hacking attempt. Sources said that NTC was not prepared for accomplishing the task and the management of the company had sought ‘ample time’ for executing the job. The federal government also asked the E-government Directorate to formulate a panel of experts for evolving strategy against hacking activities. The expert would also suggest various security related plans to the directorate. It may be noted that Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) first detected the Indian attempts to hack the site. The Cyber Crime Wing of FIA later reported the incident to the federal government. Full Story
