Three dead, many wounded in Tel Aviv suicide attack: radio

Three people died and many were wounded in the suicide bombing of a cafe in Tel Aviv, Israeli public radio reported quoting an official of Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross. Some 65 people were wounded, eight very seriously, in the attack close to the United States embassy, police and medical sources said. Most of the victims were said to be young. “A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the cafe Mike’s Place and claimed victims,” police commander Yossi Setbon told Israeli public radio. He said the bomber used several kilograms of explosives studded with nails. The seafront cafe was packed with customers at the time of the attack, witnesses said. Police cordoned off the whole district around the US embassy and carried out searches for explosives. The bombing, which was not immediately claimed, came just hours after the investiture by the Palestinian parliament in Ramallah, West Bank, of moderate Mahmud Abbas (Abu Mazen) as prime minister of the Palestinian Authority.
