Government assured the Rajya Sabha that all hardware and software relating to India’s security will be developed within the country as investigations have revealed that an internet provider had indirect connection with Chinese intelligence and said lobbyists will not be allowed to influence decision-making in the telecom sector. Government is setting up several working groups on cyber encription and cyber security to ensure that key areas like defence, finance, commerce and air traffic control systems were not disrupted in case of emergency, Communications and Information and Technology Minister Arun Shourie said in his 50-minute reply to a debate on the working of his ministries. Responding to members’ concern, Shourie said these steps have been taken also keeping in view the tactics employed in the Iraq war during which the precision bombings and entire command and control systems were based on high technology.
