Pakistani authorities seized a huge cache of arms in a Sunday morning raid near the border with Afghanistan but made no arrests, an official said. The raid took place about 124 miles south of Peshawar, capital of the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), in a semi-autonomous tribal area. Assistant Political Agent Kafayatullah told Reuters by telephone that among the mortar shells, remote-controlled mines, missile fuses and mortar guns were 99 Russian missiles and about 64 guns of every variety conceivable. “The owner of the store where the arms were kept managed to flee across the border into Afghanistan,” he said.
